Lyn Frances Cain was a dear friend who died from cancer, and every year since 1995 a netball tournament has been held in her memory.

In the seventeen years this tournament has been held a total of more than £51500 has been raised for various cancer related charities namely; Children Nationwide ‘cancer kids campaign' Breakthrough ‘Breast Cancer'; Get A-Head (Throat & Neck Cancer), Macmillian Cancer Relief and Cancer Research UK and Teenage Cancer Trust, as well as local hospices.

Lyn's netball career started in Bedfordshire where she grew up and for many years played for Brookland's, who enter the tournament every year.

In 1990 Lyn changed jobs and moved to Birmingham joining Bournville Netball Club in the Winter Season and Rover in the Summer. She represented Birmingham County as a player and umpire. A player first and foremost Lyn will always be remembered for her talents in organising, willingness to always help, dedication to the sport and above all a lovely lady with a positive attitude to life whatever it dealt her. Lyn died on the 17 th December 1994 the day after her 38 th birthday from this dreaded disease.

As a way to remember Lyn, the Rover and Bournville netball clubs organise an open netball tournament in September with teams from across the country attending.

The 2011 Lyn Cain tournament was held on Sunday 11 September at King Edwards Girls School, Edgbaston Park Road, Birmingham, raising a fantastic £3,800 for Teenage Cancer Trust.
